Norman has a long sports history. Now, there’s a new way to make sure the people and teams behind it get their due.
The Norman Sports Hall of Fame is officially accepting nominations for its inaugural induction class, with submissions open through October 31, 2026.
Established by the Norman Sports Commission, the Hall of Fame will recognize the athletes, coaches, teams, and contributors who have made a lasting impact on sports in Norman. And this isn’t limited to one level of competition. The Hall of Fame will span youth, amateur, high school, collegiate and professional athletics, along with those who have helped build Norman’s sports community behind the scenes.
“Sports have long been a part of Norman’s identity,” said Trent Brown, Executive Director of the Norman Sports Commission. “From championship teams and standout athletes to coaches, administrators and community advocates, countless people have helped build the culture of sports in our community.”
That leaves a lot of Norman sports history to consider.
Nominees can include athletes, coaches, administrators, officials, teams, volunteers, benefactors and others whose impact on sports in Norman has been significant and lasting. A Selection Committee representing a cross-section of the Norman sports community will review nominations and recommend inductees for the first class.
For longtime Norman residents, former athletes, alumni, and anyone with a connection to sports here, this is a chance to help bring some of those stories forward. The names that immediately come to mind are important, but so are the coaches who built programs, the teams that defined an era, and the people whose work made competition possible in the first place.
“Every community has stories worth preserving,” Brown said. “This Hall of Fame belongs to Norman, and we want the community’s help identifying the people and teams who deserve to be recognized.”
The inaugural class will be honored at the first Norman Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet in May 2027 at the Young Family Athletic Center, with ticket and event details to be announced later.
