Students coming to the University of Oklahoma for the first time will no doubt want to explore their new hometown. There’s plenty to choose from in Norman for people from all walks of life. There are countless ways to dive into the local scene. While the new semester is just around the corner, Norman offers summer experiences for every interest — indoors and out.
No matter your hobby, Norman’s got you covered.
Indoor Activities
If you want to beat the summer heat, here are some places you’ll enjoy:
24 lanes of classic bowling fun! Sooner Bowling Center’s space allows for large gatherings or a smaller party to enjoy some friendly competition. Check out Glow Bowling nights from Thursday through Saturday evenings (9:30 p.m. on Thursday, 9 p.m. on Friday & Saturday).

Located right off I-35, HeyDay Entertainment has everything from bowling, outdoor mini golf, billiards, arcades, newly added pickleball courts and even a rope course. A full menu of pizza and goodies off the grill will give you the extra boost you need to finish the last round of laser tag.

Want to step back into the age of 16-bit pixels and retro video game jingles? Soonercade, located in the Sooner Mall off Main St. near the I-35 bridge, is a perfect place for friends to play classic arcade games from the '80's, '90's, and beyond. For an affordable price, you have your run of the place with games, air hockey, billiards, console games and snacks. Game over? Not at Soonercade!

Outdoor Activities
If being out in the sun is your game, you’ve got to try out these spots:
A par-3 golf course in a picturesque neighborhood welcomes both golf beginners and veterans to enjoy a fun outing. For a twist, try foot golf – played with your feet and a soccer ball on the same golf course with separate holes.

Westwood Family Aquatic Center
Norman summers can sizzle, but sometimes you still want to be out of the dorm. Westwood Family Aquatic Center is the best way to enjoy the outdoors and not melt. At an affordable rate, you can enjoy open swimming in their large pool (up until September 1) and large water slides. Catch a tan and enjoy some cool water on a hot day.

Clearbay Recreation Area Trail System
A few miles east of campus down Highway 9 is Lake Thunderbird. In addition to lake fun, you can enjoy their trail system for fun, shaded, hiking, jogging, biking, or a peaceful walk in nature. There are 18.5 miles of trails, giving explorers plenty of options on their adventures. More information on Clearbay and other Norman trails can be found here.

No matter your personality or interests, Norman delivers summer fun at every turn. For group events, solo exploration, or family outings, make the most of everything Norman has to offer this season to start building memories you'll cherish for a lifetime.
