The Fourth of July is always one of Norman's biggest celebrations of the year, but in 2026, it's getting an extra dose of red, white, and blue.

 

To celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States, FourthFest is expanding into a four-day celebration packed with live music, fireworks, family activities, outdoor movies, food trucks, and brand-new events across the city. From glowing lanterns lighting up the water at Legacy Park to a spectacular fireworks finale over Reaves Park, something is happening every day from July 1-4.

 

Whether you're looking for family-friendly fun, live entertainment, patriotic celebrations, or simply an excuse to spend a summer evening outdoors, FourthFest 2026 is shaping up to be Norman's biggest Independence Day celebration yet.

July 1: Water Lantern Festival

There's no better way to kick off FourthFest than with a little summer magic.

 

The celebration begins at Legacy Park with the Water Lantern Festival, where 250 red, white, and blue lanterns will glow across the water in honor of America's 250th birthday. Inspired by a Japanese tradition, the lantern display creates a breathtaking scene that's unlike anything else happening during FourthFest.

 

Add in food trucks, a live DJ, warm summer weather, and one seriously Instagram-worthy backdrop, and you've got the perfect start to four days of celebration. Bring your friends, bring the family, and get ready to watch Legacy Park light up in a showcase of patriotic delight.

 

July 2: Outdoor Movie Night

What's more American than Captain America?

 

On July 2, Reaves Park transforms into an outdoor movie theater for a free showing of Captain America: The First Avenger. Bring a blanket, claim your spot on the lawn, and settle in for a summer movie night under the stars.

 

Before the film begins at sunset, enjoy food trucks, concessions, giveaways, and prizes. Guests can also snap a photo as a life-sized Captain America action figure, because every hero deserves their moment.

 

Whether you're team Marvel, team movie snacks, or just looking for a fun night out with family and friends, this FourthFest event is sure to be a blockbuster.

 

July 3: Wiffle Ball Home Run Derby

Think you've got a home run swing?

 

Put your skills to the test at the Wiffle Ball Home Run Derby on July 3 at Reaves Park. Open to participants of all ages, this friendly competition gives everyone a chance to step up to the plate and see how many balls they can send flying.

 

The participant with the most home runs will take home a trophy and serious bragging rights, while spectators can cheer from the sidelines and enjoy concessions throughout the evening.

 

Even if you're not stepping into the batter's box, it's a fun evening to grab a snack from the concession stand, cheer on competitors, and enjoy some friendly summertime competition before FourthFest's grand finale the next day.

 

July 4: Independence Day in Norman

Firecracker 5K

Rise and shine because FourthFest's biggest day starts bright and early.

 

Kick off your Independence Day at the Firecracker 5K at Legacy Park, where runners, walkers, and families can hit the pavement before a full day of FourthFest festivities. Whether you're chasing a personal best or simply looking for a fun way to start the holiday, the Firecracker 5K is a great way to get moving and celebrate for a good cause.

 

The race benefits Meals on Wheels and will also feature local vendors like StretchLab and the Women's Resource Center, making it easy to stick around and enjoy the community atmosphere before heading off to the rest of FourthFest's festivities.

 

Red, White, and Blue Swim

Let's be honest, July 4 in Oklahoma is hot.

 

Luckily, the Red, White, and Blue Swim at the Westwood Family Aquatic Center has you covered. From noon to 6 p.m., families can splash into an afternoon of patriotic fun featuring games, activities, and plenty of ways to stay cool before the evening festivities kick off. 

 

Whether you're racing down the slides, floating along the lazy river, or simply relaxing poolside, it's a great way to spend part of your Independence Day.

 

Admission is free for season pass holders, with discounted admission available for non-pass holders.

 

FourthFest at Reaves Park

As the sun begins to set on Independence Day, all roads lead to Reaves Park for Norman's biggest Fourth of July tradition.

 

From live music and family activities to food trucks, vendors, patriotic celebrations, and fireworks, FourthFest is an evening packed with entertainment from start to finish. Whether you're coming for the concerts, the kids' activities, or simply to soak up the festive atmosphere, Reaves Park is the place to be on July 4 starting at 4 p.m.

 

Live Music & Patriotic Programming

This year's FourthFest lineup features an exciting mix of Oklahoma talent, beginning with Logan Mac, followed by Tyler Halverson, and headlined by Cody Canada and the Departed.

 

The entertainment doesn't stop between sets. After Logan Mac's performance, attendees can hit the dance floor for a community line dancing lesson led by MetroFIT Line Dance Instructor Charissa Milton before enjoying a performance of "God Bless America."

 

Later in the evening, the celebration takes on a patriotic tone with a special reading of the Preamble by children from Sooner Theatre, accompanied by historic quotes from American leaders including Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and more. Guests can also enjoy a performance of the National Anthem, remarks from the Mayor, and a daytime fireworks display before the evening's headlining concert.

 

Family Fun at the U.S. of Play

Bringing the kids? They've got their own FourthFest adventure waiting.

 

The “U.S. of Play” Kids Area will be packed with family-friendly activities throughout the evening, including moon bounces, pony rides, an exotic animal petting zoo, vendors, and plenty of opportunities to burn off some energy.

 

Families can also cool off at the "Star Spangled" Splash Zone, run through a fire hydrant spray area, or take a ride down the inflatable slip-and-slide before heading back to enjoy the rest of the festivities.

 

Food, Vendors & FourthFest Fun

Between performances and activities, be sure to explore the variety of food trucks, local vendors, giveaways, and community booths spread throughout the park.

 

Keep an eye on the crowd, too. You never know when the popular T-shirt slingshot might launch free FourthFest swag into the air.

 

Fireworks Finale

Of course, no FourthFest celebration would be complete without fireworks.

 

At approximately 9:45 p.m., the skies above Reaves Park will light up with one of the biggest fireworks shows in the state, providing the perfect grand finale to four days of celebration.
