The annual Farm Girl Fair returns Sunday, Oct. 4, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sandy River Ranch, bringing dozens of vendors together on the west side of Norman for a day that feels part market, part country fair and very much its own thing.
Farm Girl Fair has been a Norman fall tradition since 2016, when its founders set out to create something that felt a little removed from the usual pace of everyday life. Inspiration came in part from the county fair in E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web, with an emphasis on gathering together, spending time outside, and celebrating the people who make and create things by hand.
Ten years later, that idea still fits. This year’s fair brings a long list of Oklahoma makers and small businesses to Sandy River Ranch, with booths spanning pottery, jewelry, art, clothing, vintage finds, florals, home goods, baked goods, and more. There’s sourdough. There are cookies. There’s permanent jewelry. There are plenty of things that will be harder to talk yourself out of once they’re sitting in front of you.
And that mix is part of what makes the fair fun. You don’t really need a shopping list.
The setting is part of it, too. Sandy River Ranch sits on the west side of Norman, away from the city’s busier shopping districts and surrounded by a little more breathing room. For one Sunday each fall, the ranch becomes its own small marketplace, where you can wander from booth to booth, meet the people behind what you’re buying, and stay awhile.
It’s also a chance to see a different side of Norman. We love our college-town energy, busy districts and packed event weekends, but Norman stretches well beyond campus and downtown. Head west and things open up quickly, making the ranch a fitting backdrop for a fair inspired by a slower pace and a little old-fashioned fun.
And it is a fair, after all. Past events have included live music, food, hayrides, pie contests, and family activities alongside the vendor market.
Come with the family, grab a friend who’s always up for a good market, or use it as an excuse to get a head start on holiday shopping. Just leave a little room in the car for whatever comes home with you.
