For one October evening, Main Street is trading cars for costumes, storefronts for trick-or-treat stops, and the usual Downtown buzz for a little Halloween magic.

The 12th Annual Downtown Norman Fall Fest returns Friday, Oct. 23, bringing three hours of free, family-friendly fun to the heart of Norman. From trick-or-treating and inflatables to live performances and a costume contest, Downtown will be packed with plenty of reasons to pull out the costumes a little early.

Planning to join the fun? Here’s everything you need to know before you go.

Fall Fest at a Glance

Time: 6 to 9 p.m.
Where: Downtown Norman along Main Street between Jones Avenue and Porter Avenue

Who: Everyone! Fall Fest is designed as a family-friendly community event.

Whether your crew arrives dressed as superheroes, storybook characters, friendly monsters, or something entirely homemade, costumes are very much encouraged.

What to Expect at Fall Fest

Once the clock strikes 6 p.m., Main Street becomes Halloween headquarters.

Families can make their way through Downtown for trick-or-treating, stopping along the way for candy and other festivities throughout the event area. There will also be bounce houses and inflatables, activities for kids, and plenty happening along Main Street throughout the evening.

Fall Fest has become a Downtown Norman tradition for a reason. It gives families a chance to enjoy Halloween together in the middle of the community, surrounded by local businesses, neighbors, and hundreds of fellow costumed characters.

And while candy may be an important part of the evening, there’s much more brewing than what ends up in the trick-or-treat bucket.

Catch Live Performances Downtown

From 7 to 8 p.m., the spotlight turns to some talented local performers.

The evening’s lineup includes performances from Sooner Theatre, OU Elite Dance and Norman Ballet Company, giving families a chance to take a break from trick-or-treating and catch a show before the night’s grand finale.

If you want to experience a little bit of everything, consider arriving near the beginning of Fall Fest. That gives you plenty of time to explore Main Street, trick-or-treat, and enjoy the inflatables before finding a spot for the performances.

Save Your Best Costume for 8 P.M.

Don’t pack away those capes, crowns, masks, and monster feet too early.

At 8 p.m., Fall Fest turns up the music for a Dance Party and Costume Contest. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite spooky, silly, or creative looks and join the fun.

Whether you’ve been planning the family costume for months or your little one changed their mind three times on the way out the door, this is their chance to show it off.

Know Before You Go: Parking and Street Closures

With Main Street becoming part of the festivities, there are a few transportation details to keep in mind before heading Downtown.

Main Street will be closed to vehicle traffic between Jones Avenue and Porter Avenue, and parking will not be available along that stretch during the event.

Paid parking will be available in the lot north of First Fidelity Bank, with proceeds benefiting United Way of Norman.

Because Fall Fest draws hundreds of families to Downtown Norman, giving yourself a little extra time to park and walk to the event area can help make the beginning of your evening easier.

A Few Tips for Your Fall Fest Night

A little preparation can go a long way when you’re wrangling costumes, candy buckets, and excited trick-or-treaters.

Bring a bag or bucket sturdy enough for plenty of candy, wear shoes that are comfortable for walking, and check the weather before heading out. If your costume comes with elaborate accessories, giant hats, or particularly dramatic monster feet, you may also want to make sure they can survive a few hours of exploring Main Street.

Make a Night of It in Downtown Norman

Fall Fest may only last three hours, but there’s plenty to explore Downtown before and after the festivities.

Come down early for dinner, grab a sweet treat, browse local shops, or stick around after the costume contest to enjoy more of Downtown Norman. With restaurants, shops, and local businesses surrounding the event area, Fall Fest is an easy excuse to turn Friday night into a full Downtown outing.

Costumes On, Norman!

For 12 years, Downtown Norman Fall Fest has brought families together for an evening that feels equal parts Halloween celebration and neighborhood tradition.

So finish those costumes, find the candy buckets, and make your plans. Fall Fest is almost here!
