Eight new places which opened after last football season to try now
The 2018 Oklahoma Sooner football season kicks off Saturday and as the team begins the season, there are eight new places in Norman that have opened since OU beat West Virginia last November.
Needing a quick, good, hot coffee or tea on the way to the game? Stella Nova Coffee, 1415 W. Main St. (roughly halfway from Interstate 35 to Downtown), serves up crafted hot and cold beverages along with a bakery case with plenty of food options. (The flat white is a personal favorite.)
For a homestyle breakfast on your way to Owen Field, Carol's Kitchen is located at 2620 Classen Blvd., close to Highway 9 and near the intersection of Classen and Constitution.
With an expansive brunch menu, Neighborhood JAM will be a #NormanGameDay favorite for years to come! JAM is in the Downtown Norman spot once occupied by Denco's Café, Coaches and S&B Burger at 102 W. Main St. We *love* the Hot Jam Biscuit! Directly next door is The Winston, serving weekend brunch pregame (or Sunday morning post game) and dinner post game. The Winston, 106 W. Main St., also features an incredible drink menu.
On Campus Corner and facing Boyd Street, The Porch opened in the spring. With fabulous views and terrific sandwiches, it's one of our favorite outdoor eating spots, too. Former Norman Tiger and Oklahoma Sooner Ryan Broyles is one of the owners.
Land Run Grill opened a location near the hotels on the north side of Norman on Tecumseh Road close to 24th Ave. NW. With a patio along with a drink menu including a variety of frozen drinks, Land Run Grill is a festive, fun spot to spend time with friends and family before and after a game. (Tip: Order the pretzels on the app menu.)
Norman has plenty of chicken options and the newest entry in the market is PDQ, located at 2180 24th Ave. NW in University North Park. People Dedicated to Quality serves chicken that has not been frozen and without added hormones and steroids. PDQ is located very close to both Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center and the Holiday Inn Express and features a drive-thru option.
Rolled ice cream has arrived in Norman! Try out the Thai-inspired cold treat at Freezing Cow Ice Cream, 320 12th Ave. SE, just south of the 12th Ave. and Alameda St. intersection on the west side of the street.
Also, a couple of favorites may have relocated since last season if you are on the search for them. Gaberino's Homestyle Italian has moved from Redbud Plaza to 400 Ed Noble Parkway and Rusty's Frozen Custard has moved to Downtown Norman (two doors away from The Garage Burgers and Beer) at 301 E. Main St.
