Dear Sooner Freshman,

Dear Sooner freshman,

Congratulations on making the best decision to attend The University of Oklahoma!

Truly, There is Only One Oklahoma.

Three pieces of advice:

1. Get off campus. Explore Norman's rich local food scene. We love Campus Corner and we trust you have already seen it on your first day in Norman and probably have made your way to Super Target in University North Park. Make sure, however, in the next few weeks, you make a stop in Downtown Norman, too. And Brookhaven Village. The Main District. Lindsey Street. Eastside Norman. All of it. You need to try the biscuits and gravy at The Diner. Pretzels at Pub W. PickleOs and an Eskimo Frosty at Classic 50s. Coffee at Cool Beans.

2. Take in 2nd Friday Art Walk. 2nd Friday Art Walk takes place every 2nd Friday of the month in the Walker Arts District in Downtown Norman. Grab some food at one of the many locally owned restaurants, like Puebla or Das Boot or stroll through the food truck area. Hear some live music at Opolis, Bluebonnet or Red Brick Bar. Check out art exhibits at Mainsite, The Depot or any of the other galleries. This is a total #NormanMustDo while you are a student.

3. Venture off to Lake Thunderbird. Did you know that within the Norman city limits there is a lake? There is. You can sail, camp, hike and bike and more. The recreation area is located east of campus and you can drive there on State Highway 9 in maybe 15 minutes.

Norman will be your home for the next four (or five, #NoJudging) years so get to know our great city.

With love,
