7 Must-See Events in April
As the flora comes to life this spring, so does Norman. With April just around the corner, Norman residents and visitors alike can partake in some of the city’s most popular events. The possibilities are endless with nationally recognized festivals such as Medieval Fair and Norman Music Festival, concerts and performances and more. With events and festivals nearly every weekend, April is one of the best months to visit Norman, Okla. Here are seven events you don’t want to miss this April.
Medieval Fair – March 31 through April 2
You don’t need Marty McFly or Doc Brown to travel back in time. Just go to the Medieval Fair at Reeves Park March 31 through April 2 where you can experience the Dark Ages like never before. With kings, queens, knights and fools, watch jugglers, jousting and more. Or you can peruse booths where you can shop for medieval wares and sample medieval fares. You might even spot King Arthur in the crowd!
Open Streets Norman – April 9 @ 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Looking to get active while also connecting with your community? Lace up your tennis shoes, throw on some active wear and join Norman residents like yourself in Open Streets on the OU Campus Corner. Walk, bike, skate, dance, play and get to know other members of the community.
2nd Friday Art Walk – April 14 @ 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
2nd Friday Art Walk is a monthly art walk that takes place right in the heart of downtown Norman. Each month shops along Main Street display art from local artists showcasing the hidden talents in Norman and surrounding areas. But 2nd Friday is more than art. You can enjoy free refreshments at many of the participating locations or you can partake of an assortment of food trucks set up throughout the downtown Main Street area. Regardless, 2nd Friday Art Walk is sure to please any art lover of any age.
Arts on the Corner – April 15 @ 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
One of the great things about Norman is that there are always performing arts events going on – Arts on the Corner is one you won’t want to miss in April! AotC is a free arts festival on Campus Corner for community members to show off their inner artist while allowing those of us who are less artistic to simply experience our neighbor’s amazing talents.
2nd Annual Dogs Helping Dogs – April 22 @ 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Make a positive impact on the Norman community this month with Dogs Helping Dogs, a free event at the Norman Community Dog Park. Give a four-legged friend a forever home, donate dog essentials, bid on silent auction items or bring your own furry pal and see what it’s all about. Either way you could make a big impact on the Norman Animal Welfare Shelter and Second Chance.
Gary Allan – April 28 @ 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Do you like country music? Riverwind Casino has a show for you April 28 featuring country superstar Gary Allen. Roll out and hear some of his top hits from his 20-year career.
Norman Music Festival – April 27-29 @ 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
NMF is one of Norman’s biggest festivals, only adding to the city’s reputation as the City of Festivals. This year marks NMF’s 10th anniversary as one of Norman’s biggest events. With 400 performers and a lineup that stretches from Thursday to Saturday, downtown Norman is the place to be April 7-9. Plus, on top of all the live music, there will fair food and rides galore.
